|Abstract:||The focus of this paper was on the spatial growth of Benin City. Information on the maps made since 1938, aerial photographic and population data were used to examine and discuss the rate direction of urban spatial growth of Benin City. A corre lation and regression analysis of the data showed that Benin City expanded about 15 folds within 5 decades. Specifically the spatial growth rate was found to be A = 1.11p 0.88. The general directional shift of urban development was towards the northern part of the city where major institutional facilities such as the University of Benin, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Colleges and Technical School are located|
